I just got off the phone with them and I was told the Key included in the preorder kit was what I was to use until I recieved the full copy tomorrow? Is this correct?

I too got screwed by EB in almost exactly the way the OP describes. I know where I will never buy anything from again.

I'm going to simply return the retail copy unopened and get my refund.

maybe it is just the eb where you all live. i have 2 of them out here where i live. 1 of them is about 30 mins. away and the other one is about 10. and i also have about 4 or 5 other game stores within 45 mins. of my house. but i always get my stuff from eb and i have never had a problem. when i preordered well actually before i even preordered the guy handed me the pre order disk. i didnt even put any money down for the game and he just said here you go. i was all happy. then to make me even happier my g/f payed for the pre order in full. neiter one of my eb's ever have any problems.

I love my nearby EBgames. It owns the nearby gamestop. I didn't get my preorder box for a week, but then, even the website said that the date was a little different. So far the only way EBgames has failed me is their merging with gamestop, killing their original prices...

Anyhow, I kinda go there regularly so one of the guys who worked there recognized me. Basically by befriending one of the workers there, they will be a bit more interested to help you, as they ran out of that first batch of pre-order boxes, but he called in a favor from that nearby Gamestop, and obtained an additional copy for me.

Still confused on the CE order though.

Yeah EBgames is pretty messed up...just one thing...

There are ppl from all over North America and Europe, and maybe some other places too, who use these forums. When you mention the EBGames in Eaton's Center, for example, no one has any idea where you are talking about. We do not all live in your neighborhood...

Ok that's it....i'm done

EB games got it all wrong from what I'm reading on this thread. I think they thought of it more as a reserve copy, instead of the preorder itself. chris_nin00's rule of thumb, when preordering, get your hands on the preorder box(the ones with goodies in them, NOT the cute little boxes with nothing in them) when you are buying one. If you can't touch the preorder box, do not deposit money to the store, cause they suck. Best Buy has never let me down with their pre-orders... it's just sometimes they receive games later than the rest of the world *cough*Oblivion*cough*.

Too late to get the Headstart. I'm sad for you.

after all this crap about EB I say its about time we all switch to buying from the net.
my earlier post said what i had to say about EB, my friend ordered off of amazon and they e-mailed him the pre-order key and will prolly get the game tomorrow.
i hate EB now.

i know i wont make the same mistake when GW3 come out. only pre-order in-store only and i repeat ONLY!!!! if they have the game at the moment and NOOO other time.

^^^ some of my guildmates told me that BestBuy sold the game Today!!! he bought it and was actually able to play factions without the pre-order key. wish BestBuy was near me. :-(

Well you are all right I am sure EB games has issues with the hole preorder thing( mi got my preoder box only 2 days late ).....However it isn't entirely one companies problem. I think we should start pointing our fingers at ANet and NCsoft as well not just the retail store......

I mean seriously how many times has ANet and NCsoft promised everyone of their customers something on such and such date and didn't come through with their promises. IE: the CE edition of Factions.........

hell in case you all forgot the entire preorder problem in the first place. ANet and NCsoft promised everybody the preorder to be ON SHELVES on a certain date and it was late as well. DOWN WITH THESE FALSE PROMISES FROM ANET AND NCSOFT............seriously WTF now us valued customers that want to give ANet more revenues by buying the CE edition have to wait until 2 months after the release.

Sorry but GW is a great game but the marketing staff at ANet is falling WAY SHORT.....get it together guys...........

You guys want to keep blaming the retail stores for this problem ie: EB games , gamestop.......... enough already the real problem lies with ANet and NCsoft for not keeping their promises and making this way to complicated for retail store that ( in case you people don't understand this) don't just deal with the fabled GW games. In fact GW probably only makes up about....um maybe 1% of their sales

have to say its true. the guys at EB are nice and a few of them play GW and were also dissapointed, but it doesnt explain why BestBuy has everthing ready for their customers and an early release date to boot.

people have an e-mail account to play the game, so why dont they attach a pass-code to unlcok your key online instead of needing to buy a physical box for the key.

I went to Gamestop to pre-order mine, and they gave me the disk right away, so if your looking for a good palce for pre-ordering next time try Gamestop. Just a little advice to help you not make the same mistake twice.

...which unfortunatley equates to "clueless".

It's just a matter of life at work and play. Stores have employees. You either get lucky and have access to a store of enthusiasts or experienced personnel, or you have a store full of new hires who aren't up to date with current and upcoming product. It happens and sometimes can't be avoided. Sadly, the consumer suffers, but it's just impossible for every store everywhere to know what consumers want and how to handle all consumers' requests.

Hopefully the Best Buy near my house has a copy on the shelf for me, provided the missus nets us some cash for her old car (which should sell tomorrow) since we depleted our spending money to buy her a new car.

from what i was reading in all of the posts.. i can only assume that Anet makes X copies of games, the big stores (like best buy) oviously buy more copies then smaller ones, so the smaller ones run out fast or dont gettheir share at all before Anet makes X copies more...

i think that we should be able to buy a account password DIRECTLY from Anet, without going through all the other stores and trouble. i man, what is so hard to just sell a pasword only (with no box) to someone? i'm sure they would have more accounts sold in total...

but well... what could little gamers like us do to influence their bad marketting strategy?.... i guess were already doin more then we have to by posting all these complaints...

i hope they actually go through the forum and read

Well I always prefer the boxed copy rather than just buying the game off NCSoft, cuz you get the CDs at least eventually. The first time I played GW, which was last year in Apr when it was launched, I bought the key off NCsoft and had to endure unbearable downloading when entering new areas etc. This was only fixed when I bought a second copy of GW in a box and reinstalled using the CDs.

Strangely with Factions, I bought the pre-order yesterday from a store that happened to have one last copy of the standard edition. Added the pre-order key to my existing account and started playing last night. Even though there were lots of files to download, it was really really fast - like 2.4 Mbit/s speed though my connection is 6.5 Mbit/s, so it wasn't so bad after all.

I think so too and have been pestering the Anet and NCSoft support people about it for a couple of days. The most recent and complete word I've gotten out of them is documented on this thread:

Sorry to hear of all your cases guys, but EBGames has been so nice to me.

I'm in Mexico and I preordered since the 12th and they sent me a key (the pre-order key by e-mail) to play the headstart event. Also, it says my game has been sent to me, so I'll get it next week.
